The fishing grounds

A shoal with strong current – and plenty of food.

Between Garten and the island of Storfosna, the tidal stream of the Trondheimsfjord flows in and out. Just like the famous Saltstraumen, it brings huge amounts of food – and makes this one of the best fishing areas in Central Norway.

You fish from 400 metres down to shallow water. The area is known for big coalfish, but cod, ling, halibut and flatfish thrive here too.

Coalfish · Cod · Ling · Halibut · Tusk · Pollack · Haddock · Monkfish

New rules for exporting fish

If you want to take fish home from Norway, you must be able to show that it was caught through a registered fishing tourism business. We handle the documentation together with you using the FishReg app.

On arrival we need from every angler:

  • Name and date of birth
  • Home address
  • Your catch – logged on your phone in FishReg, or collected per group

Important: the documents are personal. Everyone must be present at customs with their own export quota.
