News from Garten.

Svein writes here about the season, the weather, the catches – and whatever else is happening in Garten.

The season has started – and the fish are here

The season has just begun here in Garten. The weather has been mixed, but the fish are here. Our Easter guests have arrived, and the forecast is looking better.

There are fewer bookings than usual for the summer – I think we are already feeling the new rules for exporting fish.

Important for everyone: some mail servers stopped accepting our old e-mail addresses. From now on we only have one official address: gartensjohus@gmail.com.

Happy Easter and a good summer to you all! Best regards, Svein

An answer from the Directorate of Fisheries

Another year has passed, and in mid-March we start again – this year with new rules. It worries me, and there are more gaps in the booking list than usual.

Our friends from Austria asked the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries some questions. The key answer: as long as everyone exporting fish together travels together and passes customs together, they may pack their quotas together. The documentation must still be issued to each person individually.

The easiest way is for everyone to register their own catch in the FishReg app. You get the access code from me. On arrival I need the name, address and date of birth of every angler. Svein

30 years of Garten Sjøhus

Dear friends, it is more than 30 years since the first anglers came to Garten Sjøhus. One of our guests from 1995 has booked again for this summer. It is incredible how fast time goes.

The past season was a good one. Catches were good but different from usual: there was a lot of young herring in the spring, and the fish stayed in other places than they normally do.

If it continues like this, reaching the allowed amount under the new export quotas will be no problem. Svein

End of season and northern lights

The last anglers left in mid-October. The boats are ashore and under cover, and everything is ready for winter. After a week of storm, rain and high water we came through without major damage.

The season went well – for the first time since the pandemic our numbers are no longer in the red. On 7 October we had wonderful northern lights over Garten.

I hope you all get through the holidays and the winter well. See you in 2025! Svein

The first halibut of the year

The season has started and the weather has been good, with few days lost. Most guests got their allowed amount, and several halibut have already been landed this year. The biggest weighed 26 kilos. Best regards, Svein
